COVID-19, a deadly virus that has taken a toll on the world is passed on to each other through human actions of sneezing, coughing or even exhaling. Human beings can be infected with this virus if they are in close proximity with another human who has been infected with this virus. This virus can also be caught by touching any contaminated surface. This virus begun to spread from China to all around the world which has prompted the World Health Organization to label the COVID 19 outbreak a pandemic. However, since the 16th of March more cases have been registered outside mainland China than inside, marking a new milestone in the spread of the pandemic. 213 countries and territories around the world have reported approximately 16, 379,727 confirmed cases of COVID 19 that originated from Wuhan, China with a death toll of 651,193 deaths. USA, Brazil, India, Pakistan, Mexico, Russia, Peru, Spain, UK are many of the countries that have confirmed cases of COVID 19.
If you have any of the main symptoms of corona virus, you should get tested as soon as possible. The main symptoms include high temperature (your chest and back feels hotter than normal), a new continuous cough (this means coughing almost constantly for an unusual amount of time) and noticing a change in your taste and smelling senses. Most people, who suffer from this novel virus, have more than one of these symptoms. When you notice one or more of these symptoms, start distancing yourself from people around you and instantly stop leaving the house. Only leave your house to get yourself tested. Wait for your test results and do not meet or have any sort of physical contact with anyone else until you get back your results. People who live with you should not be visiting others either because they might be carriers even if they do not show any sort of symptoms themselves.
Other symptoms that can be coined as the less common symptoms of corona virus include diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headaches, sore throat, rash or discoloration of skin etc. If you have any of these mild and less common symptoms, you should manage your health at home. However, if there are obvious symptoms, you should immediately seek help from a doctor. On average, it takes about 4-5 days when someone is infected with the virus for their symptoms to show, however it can take up to two weeks as well, there is no guarantee.
At times, it is hard to differentiate between the virus and a normal flu. However, there are some key differences. One of these differences is that the symptoms for the corona virus show after almost five days but with a normal flu symptoms will appear anywhere in between one to four days. COVID 19 is also more contagious than normal flu and spreads faster in certain age groups.
Scientists have been trying to prevent this virus by the making of a vaccine but they have already warned the world that it is very unlikely that the vaccine will be available before 2021. Meanwhile, many countries around the world have introduced sweeping measures to slowdown the spread of this novel virus. These measures include nationwide lockdowns, bans on large gatherings, closure of schools, restaurants, bars, sports clubs as well as mandatory work from home decrees.
